The 10 Best 50 Inch 4k Flat Screen TV of (2024) Review

Table of Contents

If you want to be entertained at home, you might not want to look at smaller 4K UHD TVs due to the resolution, at least when enjoyed at normal viewing distances of 7 to 10 feet looks much better and creates more impact on a larger screen. 4K resolution tends to look almost identical to Full HD if the content in either pixel format has been well formatted and the TV in question (4K UHD or HD) is working optimally from an optimal or normal viewing distance of about 8 feet. However, don’t get us wrong here. We are not trying to say you should not buy the smaller sizes. We just don’t recommend if you are still indecisive about 4K vs sticking with Full HD. For starters, you can notice, but not necessarily quite notable, the extra resolution is indeed there, and if you want to move closer to your TV for whatever reason or have it installed in a small space, you’ll definitely start to see the extra sharpness. HDR (high dynamic range) isn’t even available in Full HD televisions and much of the same applies to a number of other display features like enhanced (usually quantum dot) color and backlighting features.

The following are the six best 48 to 50 inch 4K TVs across the board on the current market. Samsung dominates the list, but don’t be surprised since the other brands don’t cover the 50 inch range with models we thought were good enough to be included.

List of the Best 50 Inch 4k Flat Screen TV of 2024:

    10. Hisense 50H8C 50-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV

Although flat screen televisions have dropped quite a bit in price across all screen sizes in the past several years, the budget-priced TV category it still out there with some interesting options to choose from. Hisense 50H8C TV review covers a 50-inch television that costs less than $500, placing it directly in the budget area of the market. Hisense didn’t skimp on features with this inexpensive model, though. The 50H8C offers Ultra HD/4K resolution, multiple local dimming zones, WiFi connectivity, and four HDMI ports. This model is limited to a 60Hz refresh rate, which makes it struggle a bit when showing fast-moving action movies or sports. And its wide angle viewing capabilities are poor, so you’ll want to be careful about the type of room in which you use the Hisense 50H8C. But at less than $500, it still represents a very good value. The pleasing screen quality comes with accurate colors with the remote that has four buttons dedicated to popular Smart TV apps. Following similar basic designs from Vizio and TCL, the Hisense 50H8C stands on two splayed feet situated on the ends of the display. It’s functional and sturdy enough, but there’s nothing particularly exceptional about the design and its nearly half-inch black bezel. But there isn’t anything off-putting about it, either.

Samsung released its MU-Series 4K HDR LCD TVs as the replacements for the 2016 KU-Series mid-range 4K TVs for buyers who don’t want to quite spend on the high prices that the QLED televisions go for. However, in a neat twist, the 2017 MU-Series mid-range TVs offer remarkably high-end specs and almost entirely premium performance to a degree that their 2016 KU-Series counterparts simply didn’t match. In other words, the MU8000 delivers almost all of the same high quality specs as a QLED 4K TV and only underperforms its much more expensive cousins very slightly on color and brightness. Oddly, its local dimming as good as that of the QLED models and this particular Samsung 4K HDR TV offers superior contrast to any QLED television model we’ve reviewed. It also offers superb motion handling, is an excellent gaming 4K TV and can function very smoothly as a PC monitor. For these reasons it takes our third place spot. Impressive overall. Most of all, for its price, the MU8000 offers some phenomenal value as a high end home theater system and the 49 inch model is particularly nicely priced for year end. We should also note that while the larger 55 inch and up MU8000 models offer native 120Hz refresh, the 49 inch version ranked here comes with only a 60Hz panel. Despite this, it still offers almost the same quality of motion handling across the board. Most content does not play back at above 60Hz anyhow.

    8. Samsung UN50MU630D 50″ 4K UHD Smart LED TV

Samsung UN50MU630D 50" 4K UHD Smart LED TV

Samsung’s MU6300 is the direct successor to the 2016 KU6300 from the same brand and while this is not a premium 4K TV by any measure of the word, it does offer a robust picture performance for most normal content viewing and even includes a limited level of HDR display capability. Furthermore, like virtually all Samsung TVs we’ve reviewed so far in the last couple of years, the MU6300 is a superb performer for console gaming fans or those who want to use their 4K TV as a PC gaming display. This means good PC connectivity, broad resolution format support and most importantly, some excellent input lag times.

On the other hand, the MU6300 is so similar in virtually every way to its also very decent 2016 cousin the KU6300 that we have a hard time recommending an upgrade from that model to this one if you already own the older TV or are deciding between the two and the KU model is cheaper. If you’re a first time buyer of a 4K TV and want one with robust performance at a decent price, then this model is a good choice. If you already own a 2016 edition that you’re happy with, either sticking with it or upgrading to something with more of a performance difference would be a better idea.

The MU6300 simply performs well overall Its design is sleek, light and fairly robust and while we consider the TV’s stand to be a bit on the wobbly side even when properly installed and properly placed on a flat surface, it’s certainly not going to collapse from any sort of casual handling of the TV as you plug in devices and so forth. Furthermore, all of this model’s connectivity ports are located along one side of the rear surface and facing outward, making them much more easily accessible than bottom facing connectivity ports we’ve seen in some other 4K TVs. In other words, as a starter 4K TV with basic HDR functionality and typically excellent Samsung motion processing and upscaling technologies, the MU6300 delivers a pleasing level of performance that consumers on a budget will like very much in most cases unless they’re already used to far more robust premium HDR ultra HD TV performance.

    4. Samsung UN50J5000 – 50-Inch Full HD 1080p LED HDTV

    Samsung UN50J5000 - 50-Inch Full HD 1080p LED HDTV

This particular television has a great 1080p resolution. While this particular resolution is nowhere near the top end of the market, it is still the most viable resolution for media today. Because a majority of broadcasts are still done in 720p, you are going to have plenty of room to work with. Not to mention, the higher end technology has yet to set in fully which means that the adoption rates are low and the costs are high. Meaning, if you do not want to spend an arm and a leg on your next television set, you will likely want to stick with 1080p a little while longer. Not only are you going to end up with a television set that can play most content at its native resolution, but you are not really going to be able to notice the difference if you are sitting a good distance away from your television set. Another excellent feature of this television set is the fact that it has a motion rate of 60. This means that your television is going to be able to properly keep up with the action being displayed on the television. For instance, if you enjoy watching sports, you will be able to watch the sports without suffering from any kind of motion blur because your television frame rates will be able to keep up adequately with the action taking place. Last but not least, this TV comes with DTS premium sound. This means that the model comes with a very impressive surround sound experience that you are going to be able to enjoy when listening to your content. The built-in audio system is going to allow you to enjoy excellent sound as the system is able to decode different DTS-encoded content.

    3. Sony XBR49X900E 49-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV

Sony XBR49X900E 49-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV

    Check Price on Amazon.com

Sony’s X900E is one of the truly outstanding 4K HDR TVs of 2017 in almost every way that counts. It not only comes with virtually all of the premium specs offered by the brand’s top-shelf X930E and X940E models (including multi-zone local dimming and full HDR support), it also manages to stay amazingly affordable for its quality despite everything it will give you. This model produces stunningly vibrant and rich high dynamic range colors, excellent across-the-board motion handling specs and some truly superb console gaming functionality while also being a great all-around home theater platform for pretty much any kind of 4K HDR or SDR, non-4K content. We almost can’t recommend the X900E enough for its price and rich specs. The 50 inch model being mentioned here is also excellently priced with a tag of under $900 at the time of this writing. Practically the only thing that Sony didn’t include in the X900E which do come in its more expensive cousins is support for Dolby Vision HDR, but this is a minor detail since most content doesn’t support the format either quite yet. If you’re on the market for a 49 to 50 inch television model, the X900E is just about the best offer in existence right now.

    2. VIZIO D50-D1 50-Inch 1080p Smart LED TV

    VIZIO D50-D1 50-Inch 1080p Smart LED TV

Resolution is only as important as the size of the screen. Really big TVs (about 65 inches and up) need 4K/Ultra HD resolution to look their best, while smaller TVs (about 32 inches and smaller) can get away with 720p/HD (a step down from the standard 1080p/Full HD) without earning too many complaints. Mid-size TVs (everything in between) are usually best at 1080p/Full HD. Hence, VIZIO D50-D1 delivers just enough resolution. Like most of Vizio’s TV offerings (except the brand new 2016 P Series), most of the D Series TVs ship with the “Vizio Internet Apps” smart platform (20 of the 25 TVs in the series, in fact). The platform is useful enough, giving you access to 4K-capable apps like Netflix, VUDU, and YouTube, as well as favorites like Facebook, Twitter, and Pandora. While it can’t stand up to the latest batch of super-bright HDR TVs, the D50 is bright enough to look good in most normal room lighting. But its real claim to fame is in black level and overall contrast performance. The built-in Wi-Fi connects with high-speed wireless for easy, clutter-free access to VIZIO Internet Apps Plus. Last but not least, this TV delivers Clear Action 240- Enhanced motion clarity with 120Hz effective refresh rate and powerful image processing for stunning sharp detail in sports and fast action scenes.

    1. Sony KD50X690E 50-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV

Sony KD50X690E 50-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV

    Check Price on Amazon.com

Sony KD50X690E is the perfect representative of modern flat-panel technology. Direct LED lighting and HDR promise to produce the most true-to life colors you’ve ever seen, while the 60 HZ refresh rate with Motion Flow XR swear that your video will be smoother than your old television. Similar features are found in competitively priced TVs, although there will be some differences between Sony’s platform and other brands. There are two unique features about this TV. First, they’ve got ClearAudio+ technology, which is supposed to provide superior sound. They also have an advanced upscaling system, which improves the quality of 1080p content. Though this last feature sounds like a tall order, everything else sounds reasonable. Now that we’ve set our expectations, we just have to put it to the test. High Dynamic Range (HDR) will change the way you look at TV. Combined with 4K Ultra HD resolution, HDR video content delivers exceptional detail, color and contrast, with a far wider range of brightness than other video formats. The result is the most lifelike picture TVs have ever been able to create, with brilliant highlights and fine detail. The difference is clear. You’ll see lifelike detail and stunning clarity, no matter what you’re watching. 4K X-Reality PRO upscales images to near 4K clarity. See the details appear in buildings and trees as scenes become clearer, smoother and more natural. TV that keeps up with real life. Sony’s refresh rate technology (Motionflow XR) allows fast moving action sequences in sports and movies to be seen with precise motion clarity.

    Conclusion

TV can be considered as one of the most important gadgets you can find in a family. As mentioned in the introduction and after going through each item above, technology has brought TV to a higher and higher level. With such reasonable price, you can own a very fabulous TV. However, since there are thousands of TV sold and advertisements out there, choosing ONE TV that both suits your budget and delivers the best features and durability can be very challenging. With these top ten, we believe we give you a better picture of what you want. Simply click order, and you’ll find yourself being the owner of one of the best TVs in 2024.
